Joe is a 25 year old journalist writing columns for his local newspaper. He regards his job as something you have to do before you can become a journalist for a big organisation. He is very hard working and will rarely submit a piece of work that he doesn’t think is to high standard.
Despite being one of the youngest members of the newspaper company, other employees will often approach Joe to see if he has any suggestions on topics they can write about. Joe loves knowing that more experienced journalists are coming to him for help, as it boosts his own confidence that he will get a job in a big company one day.
Joe writes short stories outside of work hours; they are normally children’s novels and has managed to sell a few of them. He does all of his writing on his laptop at home however, he often becomes frustrated as his curren laptop is slow and heavy. As Joe travels often, a heavy laptop isn’t very practical. People will often hear Joe complaining about his laptop or asking other people if they know how to make it quicker however he has recently come to the conclusion that investing in a new laptop would save a lot of hassle.

Scenario
Joe is currently sat in his home on his laptop looking to buy a new one. He goes onto a website that sells laptops. He has a quick look at the home page at the special offers that are available but doesn’t give them much thought. He then clicks on the laptops links and has a look at the range of laptops. As Joe isn’t a technical person he doesn’t really know what he is looking for, so he looks for professional advice. He finds a link that says talk to the professionals and clicks through to that page. This opens up an instant messenger window where he is instantly greeted by a professional. They ask him what he needs the laptop for and he goes on to tell them he needs it to be portable, quick to use and have a good memory. The professional sends him some links to pages that have a selection of the type of laptops he should be looking at. Joe is very grateful for this service. He leaves the conversation with the professional to compare the suggested laptops and see which one looks the best to him. He then makes his selection and proceeds to the checkout.
